In Austria, where the rate of COVID-19 cases is among the highest in Europe, authorities have begun a nationwide lockdown for people who are unvaccinated. This is the first strong measure in Europe, where until now no country had restricted the unvaccinated.

Latvian MPs who have not been vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 will have their pay suspended and will no longer be able to take part in parliamentary votes.

The Dutch Prime Minister announced a partial lockdown of three weeks, with restaurants, bars, and shops having to close at 8 pm.

Germany is already facing a fourth wave of infections, with the number of infections there now doubling every two weeks. Germany is drafting a law to give people the legal right to work from home.
