(VOVworld) - EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini has dismissed talks of new sanctions against Russia or Syria’s President Assad.

She said the international community needs to revive a political process to settle the Syrian civil war. Ms. Mogherini said this at a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry and UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon on the sidelines of a Brussels conference on Afghanistan in Brussels, two days after Washington suspended talks with Moscow over the failed ceasefire in Syria. Ms. Mogherini reckoned only a political solution to the situation in Syria can put an end to this war and not a military victory by one side or the other.
