The flagpole has a height of 27.9 meters, the same scale as the flagpole at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi.

Nguyen Viet Dung, Secretary of Co To District Party Committee and Chairman of Co To District People's Committee, said the construction contributes to affirming Vietnam’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and promoting national pride and patriotism.

“The national flag, a red flag with a yellow star in the center flying in the sky and territorial waters of Co To island, demonstrates the love and belief of the Party and State to soldiers and people of Co To island district. Each Co To citizen will be a cultural milestone and a resilient soldier who defends and builds a rich, beautiful, and civilized island,” said Dung.
