Foreign media praise Vietnam’s role as a non-permanent member of UNSC
(VOVWORLD) - Foreign media continued reporting on Vietnam’s winning a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure with a record high of 192 out of 193 votes.

In an article, the Sputnik newspaper of Russia said Vietnam’s victory is not a surprise due to its flexible foreign policy which enables Vietnam to maintain friendly and stable relations with countries around the world. According to Sputnik, Vietnam is ready to exert a widespread influence in the prevention of conflicts and strengthening of global security and peace. It mentioned Vietnam’s thorough preparation for the DPRK-US summit in February and Vietnam’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions. The newspaper also added that the tasks ahead for Vietnamese diplomats will not be easy, but that Vietnam will be an outstanding member of the Council with its experience and flexibility.
The Bangkok Post of Thailand said with its second sitting on the UNSC, Vietnam will continue to raise ASEAN’s profile in the world. Vietnam will also promote links to ASEAN's various agendas with the UN, especially in the areas of sustainable development and connectivity.
