Police chief Michel Cadot said Monday that there were 10,200 police and 6,400 soldiers deployed across the region that includes the stations, airports, large public spaces, government buildings, cultural sites, media companies and hospitals. A French customs officer was killed in a shooting during an operation to target arms traffickers in the southern city of Toulon on Monday.

In another development, Belgian authorities said raids in Belgium and eastern Liege have yielded five more detentions. Belgian police forces arrested 16 terrorists but found no weapons, explosive nor Salah Abdeslam, one of the key suspects of the bloody attack in Paris on November 13.
