Hang said: "On July 2, General Secretary To Lam held a phone talk with US President Donald Trump. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations, including reciprocal tariffs. General Secretary To Lam spoke highly of President Trump’s attention to Vietnam. Currently, the negotiating delegations of both countries are coordinating closely to concretize the outcomes of the two countries’ top leaders’ discussions."

During the phone call, the two leaders discussed bilateral trade relations, particularly reciprocal trade measures.

President Donald Trump praised Vietnam’s commitment to preferential market access for US goods, including large-engine vehicles. He said the United States would significantly reduce reciprocal tariffs on various Vietnamese export items.

General Secretary To Lam urged the US to soon recognize Vietnam as a market economy and lift export restrictions on certain high-tech Vietnamese products. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in economic, trade, and investment sectors, especially in key and breakthrough areas such as science and high technology.
