The Council, a South African initiative launched under its presidency this year of the G20, aims to lead high-level engagement between Africa, the G20 countries, and other global leaders.

The Council will be co-chaired by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley, Bill Gates (co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation), and the G20 President.

According to Mr. Ramaphosa, the Council will “monitor the progress, track financial disbursements, produce annual reports, and coordinate the efforts of the G20, the United Nations, multilateral development banks, and the private sector. It will also mobilize the leadership, capital, and innovation needed to transform the water sector from one of crisis into one of opportunity.”
