Google urged to open office in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - The Ministry of Information and Communication called on Google to open a representative office in Vietnam to receive and handle requests from the Ministry.

At a reception for Google’s Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs in Asia-Pacific Ann Lavin in Hanoi on Wednesday, Minister Truong Minh Tuan pledged support for Google and asked it to study Vietnamese laws and work closely with Vietnamese agencies to address violations on YouTube.

Tuan said Vietnam intends to build 4 or 5 smart cities by 2020 while discussing Vietnam’s potential as a digital economy. He urged Google to cooperate with his Ministry in training, ensuring cyber security, and improving the quality of human resources in information technology.

Lavin said she will study Vietnamese laws to aid understanding and collaborating with Vietnam. She said Google pledges to support Vietnam in developing a digital economy.
