(VOVWORLD) - The Republican Party officially nominated former US President Donald Trump as its 2024 presidential nominee at the start of its national convention in Milwaukee on Monday.

Trump will formally accept the party's nomination in a prime-time address on Thursday and will challenge Democratic President Joe Biden in the November 5 election. This will be the third time Trump is the Republican Party candidate for President since 2016.
Trump announced Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, 39, as his running mate. Senator Vance’s views on domestic and foreign policy are closely aligned with Trump's.
The Republican National Convention and its 2,400 delegates adopted Trump's slogan "Make America Great Again".
In another development, the US Secret Service said Monday it will cooperate fully in an investigation called for by President Joe Biden and members of Congress after Secret Service agents failed to prevent a gunman from shooting and injuring Mr. Trump on Saturday.
