(VOVWORLD) - The Party and the State consider the development of the private sector an urgent and constant task in the process of fine-tuning the socialist-oriented market economy, said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Saturday.

The PM made the statement while chairing a Government meeting with major private businesses to help them iron out difficulties and promote their pioneer role in socio-economic development.

“I hope that entrepreneurs will continue to uphold the spirit of patriotism and compassion. This is our tradition, our cultural heritage, and the mainstay of our nation," he said.

Mr. Chinh called on entrepreneurs to embrace their historic role in contributing to the country and to create more breakthroughs, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating typhoon Yagi.

"We will celebrate 100 years of the Party's leadership in 2030, and there must be something meaningful to mark this milestone,” he said.

Participants discussed several key issues, including the status and role of large private enterprises. The private sector currently contributes nearly 45% of Vietnam’s GDP and more than 40% of total social investment capital, and employs 85% of the total workforce. It also accounts for 35% of total import turnover and 25% of total export turnover.
