Greece insists on end to austerity

(VOVworld) - Greece's new government insisted on its plan on Thursday to put an end to austerity, dismissing mounting political and financial pressures to reach a compromise with international lenders on the resolution of the sovereign debt load.

Addressing the first parliamentary meeting on Thursday, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras noted Greece will present its own road map for an exit from the crisis over the past 5 years. Tsipras was expected to outline this road map during his policy statement in parliament during the weekend. Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, who is on his European tour, said, Greece is ready to discuss a bridging agreement to help it avoid bankruptcy.  Thousands of people gathered in front of the Greek parliament in Athens on Thursday evening in support of the new government's efforts to renegotiate Greece's international loans and end austerity.
