(VOVWORLD) - Lebanon's Hezbollah fired 250 heavy rockets at Israel on Sunday, and the Israeli military said houses had been destroyed or set alight near Tel Aviv.
The Israel Defense Force said it shot down most of the rockets, but the Lebanese terrorist group achieved some direct hits, wounding dozens of people.
Arab sources reported that Hezbollah fired more than 300 missiles at Israel on Sunday, the most in two months, targeting at least three military bases. Israeli Army Radio reported that 340 rockets were fired from Lebanon on Sunday, forcing nearly 4 million people in Israel to take shelter in bunkers as sirens sounded more than 500 times.
Hezbollah said it destroyed six Israeli tanks in southern Lebanon Sunday afternoon. The IDF has not commented on the losses reported by Hezbollah.
Lebanon and Hezbollah have agreed to a US proposal for a ceasefire with Israel. There has been no comment from Israel but Israel has threatened to escalate attacks on Lebanon even if the deal is signed.
