Ho Chi Minh City speeds up semiconductor development

(VOVWORLD) -Ho Chi Minh City is currently collecting feedback to finalize a resolution aimed to to support businesses, attract experts, and develop a skilled workforce for the semiconductor industry, said a municipal senior official.

Nguyen Trong Nhan, Head of the Digital Economy and Digital Society Division at the Department of Science and Technology, addressed a workshop on cooperation in policymaking, research, training, and the development of electronic and semiconductor products last weekend.

Under the draft resolution, projects such as artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and semiconductor manufacturing plants could receive direct financial support from the state budget, covering up to 10% of total investment capital, with a maximum of nearly USD 8 million per project.

Additionally, chip design companies would be eligible for support covering 100% of testing costs, 70% of research and development expenses, and 50% of investment costs for equipment and technology.

The city has designated 12 land sites to develop a concentrated digital technology zone, with nearly 1,000 hectares reserved for high-tech industries. Semiconductor projects located in these areas will benefit from full exemptions on land use fees throughout their operation, as well as corporate income tax incentives, import duty exemptions on equipment, and rapid customs clearance procedures.
