India, Japan to bolster bilateral defense ties

(VOVWORLD) -India and Japan reached important agreements on security and defense cooperation at the 3rd 2+2 Foreign and Defense Ministerial Meeting, which took place on Tuesday in New Delhi, India.

India and Japan agreed to prepare a new framework for security cooperation in line with their desire to expand overall strategic ties and bolster defense and security ties, and backed a "common strategic vision" of a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said the two sides discussed new directions in technology, research, and industrial cooperation. He emphasized the importance of trust-based cooperation in emerging technology sectors, including defense.

India called on Japan to remove regulatory bottlenecks that exist in sharing of critical technologies. India and Japan agreed to strengthen cooperation in capacity building, including addressing challenges in cyberspace.
