Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, J. A. Barata, the spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, said that no one had survived and the crashed plane’s black box had been found. 13 members of the Indonesia Disaster Victim Identification unit had been sent to Jayapura, where the bodies are being held for identification. In a meeting with families of the passengers at Sentani Airport, Indonesian Minister of Transportation, Ignatius Jonan, pledged to review all aviation procedures, determine the cause of the incident, and complete procedures for the victims, including paying insurance.
Indonesia’s National Transport Safety Commission will conduct an investigation into the incident. The commission has urged the Transportation Ministry to review all domestic commercial airlines, which have mostly small planes without weather radar equipment. It also called for improving infrastructure for all flights across Indonesia, especially in Papua province.
