(VOVWORLD) -A total of 1,644 people died, 3,408 were injured, and 139 remained missing in a powerful earthquake in Myanmar, according to the Information Team of the State Administration Council on Sunday.

Currently, rescue teams are still trying to search for missing people in Mandalay city, the most affected area.
Meanwhile, the capital of Thailand, Bangkok, located more than 1,000 km from the epicenter, has confirmed 10 fatalities, most of whom were workers buried under the rubble of a 30-story building under construction that collapsed.
Amid the challenges Myanmar is facing in search and rescue efforts, the international community has swiftly launched relief operations and pledged support in terms of manpower, financial aid, and essential supplies.

On Saturday, China sent a rescue team of 82 members to Myanmar. Additionally, another rescue team from Yunnan province has also arrived in Yangon, Myanmar.
According to China's International Assistance Agency, Beijing has pledged to provide 13.8 million USD in emergency humanitarian aid, with relief shipments set to begin Monday.
On the same day, Hong Kong, China dispatched 51 rescue personnel, two search-and-rescue dogs, and delivered nine tons of equipment to Myanmar.
Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said a C-130 military transport plane had been dispatched carrying hygiene kits, blankets, food parcels and other essentials. India also sent a search-and-rescue team and a medical team on this flight.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) is mobilizing its logistics hub in Dubai to prepare emergency medical supplies for earthquake victims. WHO has also activated its emergency response mechanism and is coordinating relief efforts from its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
The European Union (EU) has announced an emergency aid package of 2.7 million USD, while Malaysia, South Korea, and New Zealand have also pledged personnel support and essential supplies to assist Myanmar.
