The Arab League Council (AL), the United Nations, and many countries have warned that the move risks a new disaster in a region already engulfed in conflict for nearly two years.

At an Arab extraordinary meeting on Sunday, convened at Palestine’s request, the AL condemned Israel’s plan, describing it as “a violation of international law and conventions, a blatant act of aggression against all Arab states, their national security,  political and economic interests, as well as a threat to security, peace, and stability in the region.”

The AL emphasized the importance of implementing United Nations Security Council Resolutions 2735, 2712, and 2720, which include demands for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the repatriation of displaced persons, safe and effective delivery of humanitarian aid, prisoner exchanges, and the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.

During an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Monday, Miroslav Jenča, Assistant to the UN Secretary-General, said Israel’s plan will likely trigger another calamity in Gaza, causing further forced displacement, killings, and destruction.

Miroslav said that there is no military solution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine and that “Gaza is, and must remain, an integral part of a future Palestinian state as part of the two-State solution.”
