Iraqi forces foil 2 suicide bomb attacks in Kirkuk

(VOVworld) – Iraqi security forces on Sunday foiled two suicide bomb attacks by suspected Islamic State (IS) militants targeting two Shiite mosques in Iraq's northern city of Kirkuk.

In one of the attacks, a suicide bomber tried to enter a Shiite mosque crowded with worshipers in western Kirkuk, but he denoted his explosive vest when guards stopped him, wounding two guards and two other people.

Kirkuk police chief Khattab Omar Aref said the other attack was carried out by a 15-year-old suicide bomber. He tried to attack a Shiite mosque in central Kirkuk, but the security forces captured him and defused his explosive vest.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks, but, the IS militant group is responsible for most such suicide attacks, targeting areas where crowds of people gather, including markets, cafés, and mosques across Iraq.
