Japan draft new national defense program

The Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s cabinet decided to draft a new national defense program at the end of this year to strengthen defense ability. The Japanese government cited North Korea’s nuclear test and disputed Senkaku/ Diaoyu Island with China factors forcing Tokyo to reconsider its national defense program which the Democratic Party of Japan issued since 2010. The new cabinet agreed to give up medium term defense plan built from 2011 until 2016 and targeted a new plan by the end of this year. The government approved a provisional defense policy in a cabinet meeting which will reflect in progress of budget draft for this year’s finance.
