Speaking in Tokyo on Friday at the opening of a joint meeting of LDP lawmakers, Prime Minister Ishiba reaffirmed his intention to remain in office to focus on addressing the country’s key issues. He emphasized that while tariff negotiations with the United States have yielded results, many challenges remain in implementing related policies and commitments. Therefore, he will continue to shoulder the responsibility of ensuring stability.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Prime Minister Ishiba said that there is still much work to be done, especially in trade and exports to the US — a vital market for Japanese businesses. When asked about the possibility of an early LDP leadership election, he stressed that all procedures would follow the party’s charter, and reiterated that he has neither current plans for a Cabinet reshuffle nor changes to the party leadership.
