(VOVWORLD) - King Charles III joined fellow members of the royal family and thousands of veterans at the annual Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the Cenotaph war memorial in central London.
King Charles in the uniform of an army field marshal laid the first wreath at the memorial in remembrance of those who died during the World War I and subsequent conflicts. The delegation was followed by Prince William, the Prince of Wales, dressed in a Royal Air Force uniform with the rank of Flight Lieutenant.
The solemn ceremony began with a nationwide minute of silence, marked by a single gun salute and the sound of the Royal Marines’ trumpet. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and senior political figures then took turns placing wreaths, joined by representatives from Commonwealth nations.
After the wreath-laying, some 10,000 military veterans with gleaming medals marched past the Cenotaph, accompanied by military music and applauded by well-wishers lining the footpaths.
Remembrance Sunday serves as a moment of national reflection for the United Kingdom — honoring those who gave their lives for the country and reaffirming its commitment to peace.
