Localities gear up to minimize damage as super typhoon Yagi edges closer
(VOVWORLD) - Ninh Binh province has banned vessels from going out to the sea from 1:00 PM Thursday and other coastal provinces including Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, and Nghe An are expected to follow suit on Friday as super typhoon Yagi approaches.

More than 51,000 fishing vessels have been informed of the storm's developments to ensure safe sheltering.
With winds speeds reaching 210km/h, Yagi is forecast to make landfall in Vietnam on Saturday, affecting the entire northern and north-central regions, particularly localities from Quang Ninh to Thanh Hoa provinces.
Charing a meeting in Hanoi on Thursday with 28 provinces and cities to coordinate responses to typhoon Yagi, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha requested that ministries, sectors, and localities exert the greatest efforts to minimize the loss of life and property. He warned of possible flash floods and land slides in mountain regions.
Residents in at-risk areas, people working on fish farms, and tourists on offshore islands must be evacuated, the Deputy PM said.
Yagi registers as the world's second-most powerful tropical cyclone in 2024 so far, after the Category 5 Atlantic hurricane Beryl.
At least 13 people were killed in the Philippines earlier this week due to Yagi.
