In a television address on Wednesday, President Emmanuel Macron responded to a call by Friedrich Merz, the likely next German Chancellor, who suggested that Europe should rely not only on the United States but also on France for nuclear deterrence. Macron emphasized that decisive actions would be taken at the March 6 summit, where several key proposals from France are expected to be approved.
While reaffirming Europe’s strong commitment to NATO and its strategic partnership with the United States, Macron stressed that Europe must take greater responsibility in shaping its own future.
