(VOVworld) - The mayors of Mekong sub-region cities have adopted a strategy and road-map for tourism cooperation until 2015. At a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday, leaders from Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh and Vientiane also signed a joint statement which encourages travel agencies to cooperate in information exchange and experience sharing on tourism development planning and promotion. They agreed to cooperate in training and developing human resources for tourism, implementing joint promotion programmes to build the Mekong Sub-region into an attractive destination. Participants agreed that the meeting will re-convene annually as part of the framework of International Travel Expo-HCM City. Le Hoang Quan, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, told attendees ‘We hope that future meetings will attract more leaders of other cities in the Sub-Mekong region. We strongly believe that the event will lay a foundation for the development of the hospitality industry in the region’.
