Methadone program to be expanded to more provinces

Vietnam will expand its program to use methadone in treating drug addicts from 11 provinces to 30 provinces by 2015. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc told a conference to review the programs over the past 3 years that the methadone substitution has proved effective: “If methadone is produced domestically, its price will be cut by half. The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has been assigned to work with the Health Ministry in producing methadone and generating jobs for those using this treatment method.” Vietnam is one of 80 countries in the world that have succeeded in implementing the methadone substitution program.
