The Kerr County Sheriff's Office confirmed at least 84 fatalities were found in the area, including 28 children and 27 participants of the Mystic Summer Camp, located along the banks of the Guadalupe River. At the time of the disaster, about 750 people were staying at the camp.
US President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Texas on Friday to inspect the flood-stricken areas. White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, dismissed concerns that budget and staffing cuts at weather and federal agencies contributed to the ineffectiveness of local warning systems.
The catastrophic flooding struck central Texas during the 249th Independence Day celebrations. The Guadalupe River rose 6 to 8 meters in just 90 minutes, causing massive damage and forcing thousands of residents across the Texas Hill Country to evacuate.
