NA Standing Committee proposes shortening current term of deputies
(VOVWORLD) -The current term of the National Assembly and People's Councils will end in early April 2026 instead of July 20, 2026 as prescribed, according to a proposal of the National Assembly Standing Committee presented by NA Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh on Monday.

According to Vice Chairwoman Thanh, shortening the term is necessary to narrow the time gap between the National Party Congress, which will open in early 2026, and the first session of the National Assembly and People's Councils of the new term.
The goal is to ensure coordination, connectivity, stability and consistency in the assignment of new personnel to agencies of the Party, State, Government, Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations, she said.
In addition, the early streamlining of the apparatus will also help Party committees at all levels in the new term to promptly implement the resolutions of the 14th National Party Congress and Party congresses at all levels, according to the NA Vice Chairwoman.
The National Assembly Standing Committee agreed to choose March 15, 2026 as the date to hold the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.
