National Assembly opens 8th session, set to elect president of Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) -The 8th session of the 15th National Assembly opened on Monday in Hanoi, and deputies are scheduled to elect a new State President.

The Assembly will pass 15 laws and debate 13 draft laws,  decide on investment policies in the National Target Program on cultural development for the period 2025-2035; the establishment of Hue city under central authority; and policy of investing in North-South high-speed railway projects.

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh said this is a particularly important meeting. “This session will deal with many big issues, many law projects and large infrastructure projects, with new working approaches. There will be law making and monitoring issues. The number of projects is the highest ever, a total of over 80 projects, with 31 legislative tasks and 16 socio-economic tasks," said Dinh. 

At this session, the Assembly will carry out the process for electing the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, said Nguyen Thanh Hai, head of the board for deputies’ affairs at the NA Standing Committee.

The ongoing session will last 29 and a half days and deputies will work on Saturday.
