NATO to keep 12 thousand soldiers in Afghanistan next year

(VOVworld) – NATO will keep about 12,000 soldiers in Afghanistan in 2015, 8,000 of them Americans, a senior US military official said Wednesday on the sidelines of the NATO Defense Ministers’ meeting in Brussels.

Ukraine is not a Nato member but the alliance has vowed to invest more in training the country's army.

Germany, Italy, and Turkey pledged to join the US in providing finance and soldiers to Afghanistan after 2014. Under a preliminary plan, next year American soldiers will be in charge of eastern and southern Afghanistan, Italian soldiers western Afghanistan, Turkish soldiers Kabul, and German soldiers northern Afghanistan. US Secretary of State John Kerry called on lawmakers to increase the number of special visas for Afghan citizens who have worked the US government.
