(VOVWORLD) -Improving the awareness and capacity of women and girls in responding to challenges in cyberspace was high on the agenda of a workshop in Ninh Binh city on Monday.

Ninh Binh workshop teaches women, girls how to handle cyberspace challenges - ảnh 1The workshop was organized by Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention - Ministry of Public Security, in collaboration with the Women's Union of the Ministry of Public Security and UN Women in Vietnam.

The workshop covered Vietnam's Law on Cyber Security, personal data protection, privacy rules for women and girls online, and the national action program on women, peace, and security. Delegates shared knowledge and experience on cybersecurity threats to women, empowerment measures, educational initiatives, and ways to improve policies to ensure online safety for women and girls.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Dinh Do Thi of the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department at the Ministry of Public Security, said, "the Vietnamese Government has issued laws and guidelines on cyber security, personal data protection, and protecting women and children."

Internet service providers play a crucial role. Businesses and content providers must control their content to prevent harm to children and remove harmful information, he said, adding that they must also work closely with authorities to handle violations.

Gaelle Demolis, Program Specialist for the Governance, Peace and Security Unit of the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, said protecting women and girls requires following both international conventions and domestic laws.
