Typhoon Yagi, China's 11th typhoon this year, is predicted to move northwest at 10km/h with gradually increasing intensity, according to the Center. The typhoon is expected to make landfall along the coast from Wanning, Hainan to Dianbai, Guangdong as a strong typhoon or super typhoon Friday afternoon and evening.

It will then move into the Gulf of Tonkin early Saturday morning before heading towards the Vietnam-China border with gradually weakening intensity.

The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters on Wednesday activated a level-IV emergency response to flooding in Guangdong and Hainan province. Hainan province, where Typhoon Yagi may hit directly, raised its emergency response level to level III on Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, many coastal areas in Guangdong province will suspend ferry services beginning Thursday and deploy their emergency response forces.
