The Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with the Australian Embassy in Vietnam held a ceremony on Monday to announce the export of Vietnamese passion fruits to Australia and the import of Australian plums into Vietnam.

Australia made the decision to import fresh passion fruit from Vietnam after two years carefully assessing related issues such as growing area, soil, climate, cultivation process, caring, pesticide control, harvesting, and packaging.

Nguyen Phu Hoa, Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia, said: “I firmly believe that Vietnamese fresh passion fruit will offer competitive prices in the Australian market. Passion fruit has an advantage over other fresh fruits that we are exporting to Australia, that is fresh passion fruit are suitable for sea transportation for long distance. Fresh passion fruit can naturally retain its flavor for a long time.”
