Physics Nobel honors invention of blue LEDs

(VOVworld) – The 2014 Nobel Prize for physics was announced Tuesday to go to a trio of scientists in Japan and the US for their invention of blue light emitting diodes (LEDs) which are environmental friendly and has high efficiency. The honorees were Japanese scientists Isamu Akasaki and Hiroshi Amano and US scientist Shuji Nakamura.

On Monday, the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine honored British-American scientist John O’Keefe and the Norwegian scientist couple May-Britt Moser and Evard Moser for discovering the brain's navigation system, known as the inner GPS.

The 2014 Nobel Prize in Chemistry will be announced on Wednesday.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will hold the awards ceremony on Friday, October 12th, which is the death anniversary of Alfred Nobel. Each prize is worth 1.1 million USD.
