PM calls on OECD to share experiences, provide policy advice

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Wednesday asked the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to share experiences, provide policy advice and support Vietnam in improving its competitiveness, towards meeting the OECD's global governance standards.

Prime Minister Chinh received OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann as part of his attendance of the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), on Wednesday, in Davos, Switzerland.

Highlighting Vietnam's strategic development orientations, the Prime Minister emphasized that based on the achievements of 40 years of renewal, Vietnam has identified 2025 as the starting year for a new era, the era of rise to prosperity and becoming a developed country by 2045.

To make the cooperation between Vietnam and OECD to more practical and effective, the PM asked OECD to support Vietnam in completing and publishing key economic reports to serve as a useful reference for formulating Vietnam's long-term development policies. In particular, he requested the OECD to consider Vietnam's early accession to the Organization and create favorable conditions for receiving Vietnamese officials to work at the OECD Secretariat.

The Secretary General said that the OECD wishes to strengthen its cooperative relationship with Vietnam and is ready to support Vietnam in policy advice and issues that Vietnam needs, including joining the OECD. Cormann also agreed to support Vietnam in participating in the OECD Declaration on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises, and strengthen the connection between OECD's specialized committees and Vietnamese ministries and sectors, contributing to improving the effectiveness of cooperation between Vietnam and the OECD.
