PM meets with foreign leaders before concluding trip to G20 Summit

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his wife, and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation left South Africa on Sunday evening, concluding their trip to attend the G20 Summit 2025 and bilateral activities there. Earlier the same day, Prime Minister Chinh met with leaders of countries on the Summit sidelines.

Speaking to French President Emmanuel Macron, the Prime Minister said valuing and developing relations with France is an objective requirement and a very important choice for Vietnam. He suggested that the two sides continue to maintain delegation exchanges at all levels and asked France to continue to coordinate effectively in implementing the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). PM Chinh called on France to soon ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and urged the European Commission (EC) to soon lift the IUU "yellow card" imposed on Vietnamese seafood products.

Meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Prime Minister Chinh said Vietnam values the Strategic Partnership with Germany and applauded Germany's leading role in the European Union. Vietnam welcomes and supports Germany's active presence in Asia-Pacific, contributing to maintaining peace, stability and common sustainable development goals in the region. The two leaders emphasized the importance of solidarity, friendship and cooperation in the current world and regional context.

Talking with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister suggested that the two sides boost agricultural cooperation, agricultural exports for on-site production and export; and soon complete procedures to open the door for Vietnamese rice, lychee, and dragon fruit products to Egypt. The two sides expressed their pleasure at the upgrade of the relationship between the two countries to a Comprehensive Partnership during President Luong Cuong's State visit to Egypt in August 2025, and agreed to promptly finalize the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Egypt Comprehensive Partnership framework.

At a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Prime Minister Chinh said he hopes that the two sides would soon sign a Letter of Intent on establishing a Green Strategic Partnership to enhance cooperation in green transformation, circular economy, and climate change adaptation. He called on the Norwegian Government to continue to encourage Norwegian enterprises and investment funds to invest or expand their investments in Vietnam. The two leaders agreed to increase the exchange of high-level delegations, aiming to upgrade relations to a higher level; and promote the early conclusion of negotiations and signing of the Free Trade Agreement between the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and Vietnam.
