(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Tuesday urged acceleration of key railway projects and proactive implementation of urban railway projects in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and railway lines from Gia Binh Airport to Quang Ninh and from Hanoi to Lang Son.

Chairing the 7th meeting of the Steering Committee for key national railway projects in Hanoi, PM Chinh, who is also Head of the Steering Committee, emphasized that developing the railway sector will be a crucial foundation for double-digit growth, thereby creating jobs, momentum, and strength for national development.
It will also help reduce logistics costs, increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods, ease traffic congestion in major cities, and open up new development opportunities for cities, industrial zones, and economic zones, he added.

The Prime Minister requested the Steering Committee members to provide feedback on the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway line regarding the investment in component project 1, the feasibility study report for component project 2, the progress of the agreement on rail connection and construction of railway bridges across the border, and compensation and resettlement support for the people.
Regarding the high-speed railway line on the North-South axis, Prime Minister Chinh underlined clarification on the assigned tasks, the specific plan for future implementation, the preparation of the feasibility study report, the route alignment, and proposed solutions to accelerate progress.
