Quang Ngai fishermen set sail at the start of spring
(VOVWORLD) -The People's Committee of Van Tuong commune, Quang Ngai province, launched the first fishing season of the year and initiated the implementation of the National Target Program for building new rural areas in 2026 with the message "Safe fishing, efficient exploitation, for a sustainable fishery".

At the ceremony on Thursday, local fishermen renewed commitment to fish safely and in accordance with the law, contributing to the country's efforts to get the European Commission's (EC) "yellow card" lifted.
“My boat fishes tuna 30-40 nautical miles from shore. When we leave port to fish, we have to present all relevant documents to the Border Guard. We have to report wherever we go. Wishing everyone a prosperous New Year with favorable weather and good fortune in their work,” said fisherman Phu Trung Binh from Phu Thien 1 village.
Van Tuong commune now has nearly 900 fishing boats, employing 3,000 workers. As the new fishing season begins, the commune leaders are urging fishermen to continue investing in modernizing their boats and equipment; installing and maintaining vessel tracking devices; strictly adhering to regulations against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing; and absolutely refraining from violating foreign waters.
They require fishing boats to ensure they meet all technical safety requirements before departure, avoid overfishing, and refrain from violating regulations, aiming for responsible and sustainable fisheries development.
