PM pushes further relations with Eurasian Economic Union

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Monday stressed the need to continue promoting Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) relations with specific cooperation agreements and projects to better utilize the Free Trade Agreement, further open markets, promote trade and investment, and leverage complementary strengths.

Receiving Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, in Hanoi, Prime Minister Chinh proposed effectively implementing cooperation mechanisms between the two sides to promptly address technical obstacles. He called on EAEU member countries to consider removing safeguard measures and increasing quotas for some goods from Vietnam. Expanding imports of Vietnamese goods with competitive advantages, such as agricultural products, seafood, and electronics, is crucial, he added.

The Prime Minister also proposed studying forms of developing supply chains, maritime transport, railways, and logistics to boost trade between Vietnam and the Central Asian region and individual EAEU member states.

Regarding cooperation with Kazakhstan, Prime Minister Chinh called on both sides continue to concretize and actively implement the results of high-level visits and ramp up bilateral cooperation, especially in economics, trade, and investment. Vietnam will open a Central Asia trade representative office in Kazakhstan, he said and raised the possibility of opening a flight route between Vietnam and Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.

The Eurasian Economic Commission Chairman expressed confidence that bilateral relations will continue to thrive, stating that all members wish to enhance cooperation with Vietnam and the Vietnam-Kazakhstan relationship has many promising prospects for further development.

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) is the permanent regulatory body of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which comprises five member states of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.
