PM urges Qualcomm to expand investment in core tech, semiconductors

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged US chip and wireless technology giant Qualcomm Inc. to expand investment in Vietnam, focusing on core technologies and higher-value segments of the semiconductor supply chain.

Receiving Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon in Hanoi on Tuesday, PM Chinh proposed stronger partnerships with Vietnamese companies, research institutes, universities, and the National Innovation Centre to build a startup ecosystem, integrate local firms deeper into global supply chains, and share expertise in governance, institutional reform, and workforce training.

President and CEO Amon voiced confidence that cooperation with Vietnamese partners will grow to include high-performance computing, AI-powered cameras, and next-generation data center development. He predicted Vietnam will emerge as a regional hub for research and development, especially in AI.

Mr. Amon reaffirmed Qualcomm’s commitment to joint projects with Vietnam, aiming to create opportunities for the country to deepen its participation in the global supply chain.
