(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said on Friday that Vietnam-US relations have progressed comprehensively and been increasingly deepened since both established their diplomatic ties 25 years ago.

Mr. Phuc on Friday received US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is visiting Vietnam on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US. The Prime Minister expressed his thanks to President Donald Trump and the US government for their substantial and timely support for Vietnam in responding to COVID-19 pandemic and severe floods in the central region.

Secretary Pompeo said the US values a comprehensive partnership with Vietnam on the principle of respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political regime, and strongly commits to continue making the bilateral relationship more expansive, stable, and solid.
He said the US supports ASEAN's centrality in Southeast Asia and wishes to substantially and effectively develop the ASEAN-US Strategic Partnership and the Mekong-US Partnership.
