The new policy announcement follows Chinese leader Xi Jinping's visit to Moscow earlier this month when he and Putin stressed their two countries' deepening ties.

Russia's top diplomat affirmed that Moscow also advocates maximizing the potential of strategic partnerships with countries in the Muslim world, ASEAN, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved the update of the Foreign Policy Concept of the Russian Federation. He emphasized that the changes around the world require Russia to adjust its strategies including the Foreign Policy Concept, which clearly outlines the principles, tasks and priorities of the Russian Federation’s diplomacy.
