Russia, China oppose US measures against Venezuela
(VOVWORLD) - At an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council held at Venezuela’s request on Tuesday, Russia and China voiced concern over US military and economic measures against Venezuela, warning that such actions could have negative consequences.
Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia opposed the US interception of oil tankers as part of a naval blockade against Venezuelan vessels it considers to be under sanctions.
China's deputy permanent representative to the UN Sun Lei said China opposes all acts of unilateralism and supports countries in defending their sovereignty and national dignity. Venezuelan Ambassador Samuel Moncada told the Council that the US’s measures are putting additional pressure on Venezuela’s economy and people’s livelihoods.
US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz rejected the remarks, asserting that Washington considers these measures necessary to protect regional security and US interest.
