The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a new warning to civilian aircraft operating in Venezuelan airspace, citing heightened risk from military activity. The FAA urged flight crews to exercise extreme caution amid a deteriorating security situation and increased military operations near Venezuela.

The warning came just days after a pilot for JetBlue reported a near-collision with a US Air Force refueling aircraft near Venezuela. The airline later reported the incident to US authorities.

The US has been deploying warships to the Caribbean and has conducted repeated military flights along Venezuela’s coastline. US forces have also carried out various attacks targeting vessels suspected of drug trafficking in the Caribbean and the Eastern Pacific.
