His statement was in response to a question from Russia-1 journalist Pavel Zarubin regarding French President Emmanuel Macron’s claim that the European Union’s new sanctions package is intended to bring Russia to the negotiating table.

Peskov said that only logical arguments can make Russia sit down at the negotiating table. It’s impossible to force Russia to yield to any pressure, he said, adding that Russia will work to minimize the impact of the EU’s new sanctions, which he called a "double-edged sword."

The Kremlin does not doubt that the new sanctions package will be adopted, but there will be an “appropriate reaction,” Peskov warned.
