(VOVWORLD) - The second phase of integrating Russia and Iran's payment systems, which will enable holders of Russia’s Mir cards to use them for transactions in Iran, is expected to be operational by June 30 this year, Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali announced on Wednesday.

Ambassador Jalali also highlighted that, according to the timeline, Russia and Iran plan to fully transition to the second stage of payment system integration by the first half of 2025.
This development will allow Russian citizens to use their bank cards seamlessly for payments in Iran. The third stage, when Iranian citizens will be able to pay with their cards in Russia, is planned in the second half of this year.
The Iranian diplomat added the talks between the two countries’ central banks proceed successfully. It is hoped that in 2025 their efforts will be fruitful.
Last November, the first stage of the integration was carried out, later than as originally planned, for the end of last August. Iranians now can withdraw rubles from Russian ATMs.
