(VOVWORLD) -The 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 33) will open on Tuesday with the theme "We are one", honoring the cultural diversity and friendship of Southeast Asian countries (ASEAN), said Thai Minister of Tourism and Sports Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn on Sunday in Bangkok.
The Minister said that the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games this year symbolizes unity, victory and a new beginning. This marks a special milestone when Thailand – the birthplace of the Southeast Asian Games since 1959 – returns with the spirit of “Back to the Origin”, honoring the origin and opening a new chapter in the history of the SEA Games, he added.
Modern technology will be applied to bring a satisfying experience, combining music, performance art, stage design, costumes and special effects.
9,400 athletes from 11 Southeast Asian countries will compete in 574 events of 50 sports from December 9 to 20, 2025 in Bangkok and its metropolitan area, Chonburi Province, and Songkhla Province.
Thailand is hosting the SEA Games for the seventh time, having previously done so in 1959, 1967, 1975, 1985, 1995, and 2007.
