Syrian government denies alleged use of chemical weapons

(VOVworld) - Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem on Thursday insisted the Syrian army does not use chemical weapons, despite international suspicion that Syria was responsible for an attack this week that killed at least 86 people in Idlib province.

Mr. Muallem said the Syrian army bombed a warehouse belonging to the rebels that contained chemical weapons.

The United States launched dozens of cruise missiles Thursday night at a Syrian airfield in response to what it believes was Syria's use of banned chemical weapons. The US military called the attacks “an act of aggression”.

Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said before the attack, the US army discussed the situation with Russia to avoid any misunderstanding.
