Taliban attacks Kabul airport and US military base

(VOVworld) - Taliban militants on Monday attacked the international airport and the US’s biggest military base in Afghanistan’s outside Kabul. The Afghan Interior Ministry said two rockets landed outside the heavily guarded airport, but no one was hurt. The US-led coalition reported four rockets hit the US-run Bagram Airbase near the capital but there were no casualties.

A US-led military base inside Kabul International Airport was attacked by Taliban militants.

The same day, 3 insurgents stormed a government building in the eastern province of Nangahar, killing two policemen and two government workers, and wounding 10 people. Earlier a bomb exploded at a fire station in Jalalabad city, 120km east of Kabul, injuring 6 people.

Taliban forces in Afghanistan warned that they will launch a wave of fierce attacks against foreign forces in the last summer before NATO combat troops conclude its 13-year mission in Afghanistan. Assaults will target US military bases, foreign embassies, diplomatic corps, interpreters, government officials, and politicians.
