(VOVWORLD) -US President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida for talks on a possible Ukraine peace deal with Russia.
President Zelensky said that talks between Washington and Kyiv had made progress in the past month, signalling hope for breakthrough.
“It’s very important our teams talk about strategy — how to make step-by-step, and to bring peace closer,” he told reporters.
The Ukrainian president thanked the US president for taking the time to meet and said the 20-point peace plan is “about 90% ready”.
President Trump said he and President Zelensky were “getting a lot closer, maybe very close” to an agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine.
"I do believe that we have the makings of a deal that's good for Ukraine, that's good for everybody. There's nothing more important," Trump told reporters.
The US president said he will call Russian President Vladimir Putin again after meeting with Zelensky, adding he believes Putin is "serious about peace" in Ukraine.
