(VOVWORLD) -US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he will add new tariffs to his sanctions against Russia if Russia does not make a deal to end its conflict with Ukraine.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump argued that, while he has always had a good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, if they cannot reach a deal soon, he will “have no other choice but to put high levels of taxes, tariffs, and sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States, and various other participating countries."
According to Trump, Russia’s conflict with Ukraine never would have started if he was President.
Russia's deputy UN Ambassador Dmitry Polyanskiy said Moscow will have to see what Trump thinks a "deal" to end the conflict in Ukraine means. It's not merely the question of ending the conflict, but “first and foremost the question of addressing the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, " Polyanskiy said.
